Villa Sognare – Barga, Italy

Villa Sognare is situated inside the ancient walled city of Barga. Built by the noble Bertacchi family in the mid 1700’s, it incorporates a much older villa into the grand design. The three story tower that anchors the villa was built over the ruins of the medieval fortification tower for the village of Barga, as the villas’ position affords commanding views of the surrounding valley.

The property consists of the principle living quarters… a grand and rambling villa of close to 11,000 square feet, an independent summer kitchen/bread oven, an independent converted greenhouse/limonia, a series of converted outbuildings and sheds and five terraces all enclosed from the public by high medieval stone walls.

The main residence is laid out over two main floors with a separate apartment wing for staff, as well as a large tower room with panoramic views in all directions. There are total of 9 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, 2 dining rooms, 4 sitting rooms, 1 tower room, along with spectacular Turkish sauna with room for the whole family.

The villa grounds and gardens enjoy complete privacy and solitude. The walls on the south side are part of the medieval ramparts which historically surrounded the city. The gardens are lined with stone pathways, statuary, benches, a grand 3-tier fountain and ancient trees that shade the property and serve as landmarks for the town itself.

Villa Sognare is in the unique position of having the privacy you would expect from a Tuscan villa, but also with the beautiful Barga right on the doorstep, you are just moments away from restaurants, shops, galleries and cafes.
