3RD HOME is rich in tradition with the Jekyll Island Club as a member.
Where else could you possibly stay that not only provides you a peaceful and tranquil island environment, but also takes you back through time to the early 1900’s where our country’s most rich and famous “seasoned”? Jekyll Island is an unspoiled, unhurried barrier island off the Georgia coast, which hosts the magnificent Jekyll Island Club Hotel, rich in history and romance.

At this National Historic Landmark and four-star resort, you can enjoy the utmost in fine and
casual dining, golf, tennis, and nine miles of pristine beach. Originally built in the late 1880’s,
this architectural beauty has been restored to its amazing grandeur.

During your stay at Jekyll, you will be in very fine company. At the turn of the century, the historic Georgia Club was established as “the richest, most exclusive and inaccessible club in the world,” according to a February 1904 issue of Munsey’s Magazine. This millionaires’ club included J.P. Morgan, William Rockefeller, Vincent Astor, Joseph Pulitzer, William K. Vanderbilt as well as other notables such as Macy, Gould and Goodyear. These prominent families “seasoned” on the island, enjoying leisurely afternoons at the beach, lawn parties, carriage rides, and morning hunting trips, as well as yachting along the coast.
Summer “cottages” were also built on the island by wealthy northern families. Crane Cottage, owned by Richard Teller Crane, Jr., is in the style of the Italian Renaissance and is the largest and most lavish, with formal sunken gardens and fountains. Each cottage reflected the style of the owners and has now been restored, and some are open to the public for viewing.
For a great “summer read,” a new book was just recently published by Pamela Bauer Mueller called Splendid Isolation:The Jekyll Island Millionaires Club 1888-1942. This book totally captures the essence of an era gone by. Available at Amazon.com.
